Harbert Realty Represents Landlord in Deal Bringing Crunch Fitness to Tuscaloosa

Crunch Fitness plans to open its first Alabama location in September 2018.

Crunch Fitness integrates fitness with entertainment. The new location will provide cardio and weights, fitness classes and studios, training and tanning areas, as well as sunless spray options.

“We are excited to bring the Crunch brand to Tuscaloosa,” said co-owner Brian Hibbard. “Ultimately, our business is about helping people improve their lives while also having fun.”

The $3 million project is located in a 42,000-square-foot building that formerly housed a Gander Mountain store.

Casey Howard and Charlie Norton of Harbert Realty Services represented the landlord in the leasing transaction.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Crunch Fitness to step in to a well-built, newer facility originally designed for Gander Mountain, but that can easily be retrofitted for a fitness group like Crunch,” Howard said.

Howard said Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama continue to experience growth as the city’s population has grown over 10 percent in the past five years.

“The goal was to backfill this asset with a quality tenant, and we couldn’t be more pleased with Crunch,” Norton said. “This operator has a proven track record and Tuscaloosa is going to greatly benefit from having this concept in town.”

Hibbard said Crunch focuses on college markets and has development plans for Birmingham, Huntsville and Auburn.

Crunch will be located at 3325 McFarland Blvd. E.

Headquartered in New York City, Crunch has more than 200 locations nationwide. The company plans to open 50 to 75 locations this year.
